HOLY HANDS AND HEARTS

As you go, make this proclamation:  “The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.”  Matthew 10:7

A popular survey last year indicated that, while most mothers want to be taken out on Mother’s Day, a large majority of dads prefer to barbeque for the family on their special day.  While largely oversimplified, it does confirm how many more restaurants are crowded on Mother’s day than on Father’s Day.

But can there be more to a father’s – or a mother’s – desire to have the family near, to feed them, to honor their company?  After all, Jesus said the kingdom of heaven is “at hand.”  That is, in the hands that start the grill, turn the food, carry the platters to the table.  The hands that touch and pat and embrace others, that is where the kingdom of heaven can be found….wherever your hands and hearts can reach.

Jesus, Lord, remind me frequently today of my hands and their holiness as they reach out, touch and express my love.     Fr. James Krings

Longetivity has its privileges……

Toward the end of Sunday service, the Minister asked, “How many of you have forgiven your enemies?”  80% held up their hands.

The minister then repeated his question.  All responded this time, except one small elderly lady.

“Mrs. Neely?  Are you not willing to forgive your enemies?”

“don’t have any, “she replied, smiling sweetly.

“Mrs. Neely, that is very unusual.  How old are you?”

“Ninety-eight.”

“Oh, Mrs. Neely, would you please come down in front and tell us how a person can live ninety-eight years and not have an enemy in the world?”

The little sweetheart of a lady tottered down the ails, faced the congregation, and said,

“I outlived them all.”
